sad.

so... its almost 1:00am in the morning... it technically is saturday. I have been up all night trying to figure out what happened to my sad computer. This afternoon it died. and it hasn't been fun. I know, it's all about backup. and well... i have some things backed up. but not all. and so I'm sad. so. very. sad. I've been running all sorts of diagnostics, installers, re-installers, disk warriors... (sigh)... outlook is currently grim. I'm writing this on a different computer. light a candle for me my friends...

star wars vs. saul bass
"If Star Wars was filmed two decades earlier and Saul Bass did the opening title sequence, it might look like this..."

Airborne?
Wow. I'm kind of sad and shocked. Seriously, I've been using Airborne for the past few years and it could be just luck, or maybe nothing, but I feel like it works for me. I mean, I know it's really just Vitamin C and some other herb things, and I know it doesn't "get rid of a cold in an hour-" but I feel it helps it pass faster too. I'm sure it's just more a mental thing as well- Maybe it really isn't doing anything at all- Apparently there's big controversy over it and the company is going to have to pay $$$$ for it- like 23 million dollars... Watch the link here. Read it here. Have any of you used Airborne? A lot of people are sick right now- what are you using to fight against it?
bowl of aqua eggs!

This image is of a Easter table spread from the March 08 Better Homes and Garden (I can't believe it's already Easter time! Easter is in March this year right?) The bowl of aqua dyed eggs makes me happy.

blue munday: china blue + "moonlight vases" at Crate and Barrel
Mmmmmm.... doesn't this image look so yummy? It's from the February 08 Martha Stewart Living and it's got me 1) hungry and 2) inspired about all the China blue things in decor world right now. It feels really fresh right now and kind of goes with all sorts of colors. Perhaps it's the new chocolate brown? Anyway, keeping in theme, I'm also loving this set of vases at Crate & Barrel.
Called "Moonlight vases," I like the modern twist they did with the traditional Japanese motifs.
I just wish they sold them individually...

Vintage Modern bamboo candlesticks at Sears
I love this set of vintage mod bamboo candlesticks! They're on major clearance at Sears. $17.99 for a set of three! I'm not sure what's going on with the Ty Pennington collection, but everything seems to be on sale... hm... are they discontinuing it? Anyway, I always make it a point to pass through their decor section when I'm by a Sears. The selection online is a little weak right now compared to what's in store, so if you're by one, definitely check it out- you might find some goodies!

Tumi Ishi by A4
I've mentioned my little cairn before. The concept is totally similar, but they apparently are intended for a different reason. I'm not entirely sure the specifics of this, but I am obsessed with these "Tumi Ishi" wooden blocks.
They are designed to be a toy, based on an old Japanese tradition of stacking stones. They are designed by Japanese firm A4. Obviously this is something adults can enjoy and appreciate as well. The faceted side of the woodblocks is so beautiful and simple and modern! It's mini modern sculpture!
Anyone know how I can get my hands on these?! I can't tell if they are selling them since it's all in japanese. Hm... Maybe I can find someone that could make me some?? Ideas? (via Designspotter, images via A4)

happy mundane in seattle?
Happy Wednesday! I'm going to be in the lovely state of Washington until Saturday for a quick biz-ness trip, and will be in the Seattle area. Unfortunately I'm not going to be going to downtown Seattle, but more specifically the Bellevue/Redmond area. Anyone from there or have any suggestions on any fun shops, what to do/see in that area?

I tried... Chocolate Bread Pudding
When it comes to cooking, I will dable if its something stove top, but for some reason I'm scared of the oven. I don't know why I have this phobia. But it's there. Anyways- recently, inspired by how Shelterrific always does their "test kitchen" recipe posts, I thought I would try my hand at baking something, and this Chocolate bread pudding from Food Everyday (or is it Everyday Food?) looked sooo good. Plus, they had a video too- Always helps me to see a visual. This is what it was supposed to look like.
Looks good right? Ok, so I followed the instructions, and have to say, it was really as easy as it looked in the video. (I seriously played that thing over and over about 50 times, hehe)
Here's how mine looked when it came out of the oven.
Then with some powdered sugar on top.
And then shortly after, this would be the last time you would see this piece as it was rudely and swiftly devoured by me. (like this)
YuM!
So, now that I've conquered the bread pudding- what should I make next? Any one have any easy (stress on the easy) ideas/recipies for other warm yummy gooey goodness?

Foo dog update
So some y'all might remember last year, there was the big turquoise Foo Dog phenomenon... Well, one year later, and they've finally hit on a more mass scale. Trend wise, I suppose some may consider them "out" already, although they're originally from a gazillion centuries past, so I guess they're kind of timeless really, but in case any of you were still looking for a turquoise one- I just saw that Pier 1 has some for $20 each. They're not ceramic, (I think they might have been plaster?) but they were painted to look like they were ceramic. Anyhoo, if anyone wanted to "get the look for less"- they are there.

Hookmaker from Design Glut
I'm kinda loving this simple idea by Design Glut. I'm thinking this Hookmaker could be fun in a kitchen or even by a door, or actually, could be useful in the office... so much potential! It's made as a wall tile so you could line up a bunch of them. I'm wondering if you could put a plant in it too... hm...$30 at Supermarket- (pre order, doesn't ship until March 1st.)
