Mike Perry and DWR

Mike Perry is going to be part of a charity event at the DWR Tools for Living shop in Soho. It's called "Nesting Works." He recently did the window as part of DWR's Artist window series. The piece is inspired by the word "Home"- check out more here, and here's a sneak peak at one of the pieces Mike's going to have for the show. The show opens July 23, 2009- from 7-10pm. More info here.

For those in the OC like me, I heard they opened a DWR tools for Living store at Fashion Island as well. Haven't had a chance to check it out yet. Have any of you?

new help!

I've mentioned the brilliant line called Help I need Help before- Created by Richard Fine, the line really just makes medicine less scary. He's simplified everything, and added a bit of humor to the whole process- and as they say, "laughter is the best medicine"- There are some new additions to the line and both the website and packaging have been updated.

I especially love the new "sleep" package- which includes 16 caplets of diphenhydramineHCI- definitely check out the website page for it- there's a little lullaby soundbyte that is just genius. (And just between you and me, a little bird told me that the person singing may (or may not) be Richard himself!)

anyway- check out the entire line here.

Lauren Saunders Felt Collection

I'm such a big fan of Lauren Saunders. Her recent Felt collection is totally speaking to me right now. Love the textures and color combinations. Check out the entire collection here, and her other pieces here.

writing on the wall

Look at this really clever notebook called "Walls"- Basically you can channel your inner graffiti artist and not have to worry about being caught for vandalism! The notebook has tons of pages that feature pictures of blank walls for you to doodle on! Check out more on the official site here (where you can virtually test it out- fun!!), and you can also get it here.

Paulo Werneck

Continuing my post from yesterday about tiles, check out the latest issue of Modernism Magazine. There's a great article about Brazilian artist Paulo Werneck. Love the colors and organic shapes! Check out more here, and also on the Paulo Werneck website. (images from Modernism Magazine and Project Paulo Werneck site)

love in july

new song/video from Sally Shapiro

mundane aesthetic: natural texture

Great natural colored texture. You'd think it'd be from some wall of a mid century building, but in fact, it's just a close up detail of the new sponge from ScotchBright's Greener Clean line. The sponge is made from natural fibers and also part recycled paper, so they're biodegradable. I picked these up at Target. Check out the whole line here.

Eames footage

Here's an interesting video, from a 2007 Ted conference. Eames Demetrios talks about the Eames creative process and shows a lot of rarely seen clips from their archives. It's a little long (about 15 minutes) and he kind of speeds through it- but fun and inspiring to see the clips nonetheless. (via Core77)

Who Is it

So, going off the usual happy mundane topics,- it was kinda crazy last week in the world of pop culture with both MJ and Farrah passing away- There's obviously a gazillion tributes going on, but thanks to youtube, here's a video that many of you might not have seen- it was rarely played, but I always loved it- Prior to Se7en, Fight Club, Benjamin Button, director David Fincher was synonymous with ultra glam, super stylish and sexy music videos. Here's one he did for MJ for the song, Who is it- love the dark and weird/mysterious futuristic escort ring storyline-

and here's Farrah in total 1975 fabulousness for Mercury Cougar

RIP.

HM Giveaway! Lisa Congdon and McSweeney

Yes! Yes! Yes! more free stuff! This time, as a thank you for being such loyal and fabulously happy mundane readers, I have for you some new goodies! Since it's summer time, it's all about postcards right? so- We have two sets of cards- one from one of my favorite fellow blog buddies, Lisa Congdon, we have a set of her Le Foret notecards. And the other is a box of 100 fun "Greetings from the OCean's Sweaty Face- 100 McSweeney's Postcards"- the packaging is really fun for both- Here's a better look at the Lisa Congdon postcards, and here's a more detailed look at the McSweeney's set.

I'll be giving one to one lucky HM-er, and the other one to another one reader, chosen at random. Unfortunately I only have one of each, so if you're a winner, you will either get one or the other. They're both equally awesome, and... well.. it's free! All you have to do is send your name and email address to hmgiveaway (at) gmail (dot) com. You have until Friday July 3rd, 2009 to enter. (I'll notify you by email the following week if your name was chosen!)

(Über thanks to Christina at Chronicle Books for giving the hook up!)

KROOOM stump at Target

I just posted this on I(k)W, but how awesome is this cardboard "stooobe" storage stump?! It's printed cardboard! and you can put stuff inside. So. Awesome. I got it at Target, it was on the endcap, and immediately grabbed it. only about $15. I can't find it on the Target yet, but looks like Krooom is from Australia and is now distributing in the US. I'll have a full review over the weekend after I put it together. Anyone else see these? Have one?
