Happy last day of July 2006 (can you believe it?!) For this weeks blue monday, I bring you a clipping from the August 2006 Living Etc. I love this cluster of blue plates. I guess it goes with my current circle thing. Plates are great and fairly inexpensive to collect, and can make such an artistic statement when grouped in a large number like this. I also love that they mixed traditional motifs with contemporary ones, all united by the color. (I just don't want to know what would happen if there was an earthquake...) Have any of you done something like this?

I love this! I actually have a collection of plates from my trip through Spain and France and was wondering what to do with them. I wonder how they hung them though?
My best friend lives in the cute little town of Paris, Texas. They have the best antique shops there & the prices are very low. A few months ago I visited there & bought around eight plates at various antique stores in hopes of hanging them above my bed. They are all beautiful & so original. Of course it took me a good month or so to purchase the plate hangers. And I still haven't hung the plates. Not sure I could stand to cluster them as tightly as the photo you posted, but I have got to get on that!
Jon - Love this! I don't have the August issue yet - now I can't wait to grab it. My local Barnes + Noble doesn't seem to carry the most recent issue, they are always a month or two behind.
Anyway, does the article state how this was done, or just one of those typical magazine inspiration shots where no one is supposed to ask any questions, drool only.
Holly
hey guys- in the actual issue, you can clearly see that they just used standard hanger plate hooks- although the ones shown are white, and the ones i normally see are brass- The white totally blends into the wall and a majority of the plates (since it fits the color scheme) but yeah, you can see that they just used plate hanger hooks... I was thinking, if you did just use normal brass plate hooks, you could dip the tips in that liquid rubber stuff, which might add some extra grip, and that liquid rubber stuff comes in white...(and clear)... i guess you could paint them too, to match whatever your wall color is...
ah plates! thanks so much for posting this, jon. I really have to go back to bookstores again, I haven't been checking out magazines lately. but, how do you adjust plate hangers to create such layering effect like that? I'm totally clueless.
Hi Jon! This is my first time to your blog. I love it, it's going in my favourites :)
I looove this plate idea... I have a slight plate fetish, but could never bring myself to display them.. I will definitely try this! Thanks for sharing.
I have a collection of suns, in all different colors and sizes... pottery, metal... and they're all evenly spaced out in my kitchen. It's kinda boring to look at. Maybe I can arrange them like the plates... but they don't overlap very well. It's worth the try.
