lettuce see...

I love lettuce crispers. probably because many of them look so space-y with their clear orb structure. they are designed to keep the lettuce elevated so they don't get mushy. in this day and age of prepacked everything, this beautiful container reminds us that we should slow down a bit to enjoy your produce from its natural state. (besides, there's something really satisfying about tearing up things or chopping them, no? ok, maybe its just me.. hehe) you can get one here. (and they're cheap!!)

miam.miam

just got a press release about new products from miam.miam- i'm sooo excited to see their new lines debuting at the chicago house/homewares show this weekend- looking at their website, the san francisco based design team has some genius products- i especially love the wasa plate- it's an edible plate that is made out of a cracker, and is molded in a way that has a detatchable spoon!! i also love (actually, i think i MUST HAVE) their "mushroom" series and their retro/cool mugs designs-

Blue Monday: Colgate Luminous toothpaste

every monday is blue monday. i've always been strangely attracted to anything blue- generally anything that falls into the turquoise/aqua/cyan blue range- its like those bower birds that are attracted to shiny blue objects. anyways- every monday i will post some of my favorite blue things, some new, some old. the first thing i want to call out is Colgate's new Luminous toothpaste. Aside from the enamel strengthening factors, what i really love about this toothpaste is the cap. Specifically the one for the Crystal clean mint flavor. I think the cap has been really well designed with neat features: It has a flat top so that you can stand it up, a little extended tab at the end for easy opening, and a rubber/silicone "nipple" type opening, so that every time you finish squeezing, it closes up for easy application. Also, when it goes through the rubber part, it get extruded in a star shape, like the old play-doh spaghetti machines- But the best part is that the plastic is infused with tiny bits of glitter so you get a little sparkly visual treat everytime you flip open the cap. Starts off the morning right (and ends the evening) every time-

bird orange peeler

One of the bestest places in da whole world is the Marukai 98¢ Superstores. I went to the one in Fountain Valley, over the weekend, and among the many many little things i didn't need, (but got anyways) i think my most favorite item was this cool bird orange peeler. and it was only 98¢!! now of course, whether its functional or not is another question. I haven't tried it out yet, but i'll keep you posted....

gene meyer

i have been wondering lately, what happened to Gene Meyer? Back in the early 90's, he was the new hot up and coming menswear designer, first known for his bold, graphic, happy colored ties and boxers, and then eventually a full menswear collection- In 1996, he even won the Perry Ellis Award for New Talent. Then he kinda dissappeared, like many other designer labels in the early 2000's.... then i saw a resurgence where i think he was doing a small collection available exclusively at Marshall Fields- but that apparently is no more either. I notice now though, he is still doing rugs and some home accessories-
These pieces are not cheap, (but then even his clothing back in the day was always a bit over my price range)- anyways- its so good to see he is still creating things with his great color combos and clean, simple, modern prints.

happy mundane

I've started this blog as an offshoot of Its(k)notwood.com. Just wanted to have a place to share pretty colors, good/clever design (of any kind), simple pleasures, and to take a step back and appreciate the things that sometimes get overlooked in the everyday.
